Samuel "Sammy" Aaron McManus' Obituary
Samuel “Sammy” Aaron McManus passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 82. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at University Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Aguillard officiating. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.
At the request of family, visitation will be held at Quirk & Son Funeral Home from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024 and will resume at 8:00 AM on Tuesday until time of departure for Services.
Sammy was a graduate of Eunice High School, with a degree in education from University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). He began teaching in Jeanerette, LA and then taught in Central Middle School in Eunice for many, many years.
He became the Choir director of First Baptist Church when he was 18 years old and served almost continuously until he became the music minister at University Baptist Church, Eunice until his retirement.
Sammy was a confirmed bachelor and spent most of his early life with his friends and family. When his father died, he took his mother, sister and three younger brothers to live with him in his home. His favorite pastime was taking trips in his Airstream trailer. He was a member of the Good Sam club and attended Airstream rallies all over the USA.
He will be remembered fondly by many of the students he had the privilege of teaching and many of the teachers he worked with.
“Sammy” is survived by five brothers, John L. McManus, William E. McManus and wife Diana, Reverend Thomas H. McManus and wife Kathy, Bart McManus and wife Natalie, Robert “Phil” McManus and wife Arlene; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Rita Cronan McManus; brother, Shelton McManus and sister, Elenor R. McManus.
