Scott Mcmanus
I'm one of Mr. Sammy's many nephews and I had the honor of being one of the pallbearers at his service. My dad was very close to all of his brothers and we frequently drove from Texas to Louisiana to visit Uncle Sammy, Aunt Eleanor, and Grandma Rita. When I was a small child I'll admit Mr. Sammy scared me a bit, but as I grew older I realized how much good company he was. He laughed a lot and always welcomed us into his home. I could see how much he loved his dogs, cats, mother, sister, and brothers every time I went to visit.
In his small kitchen, he and some of the other good cooks in our family worked tirelessly every Thanksgiving to bring us altogether with an abundant variety of food - which was no small effort for a group which was typically over 20 individuals.
It's very clear that a big reason the McManus family has remained so close over the years has been because of the good graces of this man. He will be missed.
