She was a very caring and loving person who cared for many families and their children. Her last and favorite family of all time was the LeDoux’s; they became her family.
She was married to the late Benjamin Franklin and together they had four daughters. She was more concerned for the happiness and well-being of her daughters than of herself. This is just the way she was and she enjoyed it.
Born in Louisiana, she moved to San Diego in 1986 where she continued caring for her grandchildren and other children. She enjoyed every minute of preparing meals for the children and telling them to “Eat until you burst!”
She was a devout Christian and loved attending Church services on Sundays. She particularly liked old time gospel music and would hum these melodies constantly. While at home, she kept a Bible by her chair side and coined the phrase “I gotta read my scriptures before I do anything!”
Vergie was happiest when her family visited and she could prepare her famous fried chicken and enjoy watching them eat and boast about how good it was.
Vergie is survived by her sister, Minerva McCrea of Jennings, La ; four daughters, Linda (Terry) Carrington of Chula Vista, CA , Opel Oliver of Chula Vista, CA , Kathryn Franklin of San Diego, CA , Jessica (Edward) Webber of Tampa Fl ; her special daughter, Sharon (Richard) LeDoux of Eunice, LA , special son, Ray (Jennifer) Kidd of Atlanta, GA; thirteen grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved.
Pallbearers will be Travis Thibodeaux, Jacque Thibodeaux, Ronald Fontenot, David McCrea, John Benjamin and Isaiah Reed. Honorary Pallbearers are Eric Thibodeaux, Ray Kidd, Edward Webber, Benyeal Hill, Aaron Rodriguez and Terry Carington.
