Theresa Rozas Aguillard's Obituary
Theresa Rozas Aguillard, 89, of the Vidrine Community, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 24, 2023 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Nick Ware Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
At the request of family, visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, February 23, 2023 with a Rosary at 6:00 PM by David Guillory. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM on Friday until time of departure for Services.
Born October 1, 1933, Theresa graduated from Chataignier High School in 1951. Afterwards, she attended SLI (ULL) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics with a minor in English. She began her teaching career in Basile, where she taught English for one year. She later went back to Chataignier to teach English and typing. When a teaching position opened in her field of home economics, she transferred to Vidrine High School. While teaching home economics at the high school, she was also hired to teach literature in the continuing education program through Southern University. Throughout her teaching career at the high school level, she was very involved with her students in school clubs and extracurricular activities.
Theresa also furthered her education by earning her Master’s Degree +30, eventually even obtaining advanced specialization in the area of Child Nutrition and Development. In 1980, Theresa was promoted to Director of School Food Services for Evangeline Parish. After retiring from this position, she accepted a position with the Louisiana State Department of Education as a Regional Supervisor for child care and development centers.
While growing up in Chataignier, Theresa was involved in church and community activities. She was instrumental in organizing the church choir and was the choir director for many years. Her musical talent followed her everywhere. When she moved to Vidrine, she became the choir director for St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou and later at Holy Spirit Chapel in Vidrine.
Theresa is survived by two sons, Kent Aguillard (Kathy), Craig Aguillard (Karen); one daughter, Jenise Mayes (Chris); one sister, Nelwyn Hamilton; nine grandchildren, Kevin Aguillard (Jenn), Kristopher Aguillard (Candace), Jason Fontenot, Jared Fontenot ( Brandi), Jada Fontenot (Garett), Tyler Aguillard (Chase), Daniel Aguillard (Molli), Jacob Aguillard (Claire), Kara Aguillard (Joey); thirteen great-grandchildren, Dylan, Everitt, Kolton, Vivienne, Avery, Max, Caroline, Eli, Brayden, Owen, Ellis, Greyson, Myles; one great-great-grandchild, Aubrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Aguillard; her parents, Linzay Rozas and Helen Veillon Rozas.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Aguillard, Kristopher Aguillard, Jason Fontenot, Jared Fontenot, Tyler Aguillard, Daniel Aguillard and Jacob Aguillard.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Tommy Fontenot for the care and love he gave to Momma T. They would also like to thank all the nurses, caregivers and special people who helped them care for their mother. All of you hold a special place in their hearts.
