After graduating from Eunice High School, Tarril attended LSU, graduating with a degree in accounting. His first job was with Larry Sikes & Associates, a firm in Eunice, LA. He then moved to Lafayette, LA and worked for a firm in Abbeville. It was at this time he developed an interest in the Arts, the theatre specifically. He started at the theatre in Eunice, eventually moving to the Abbeville theatre.
Tarril moved from Lafayette to California, where he resided for approximately twenty years. He then decided to move closer to home, moving to Houston, TX for a year before finally landing in Baton Rouge to live the remainder of his life.
It is in Baton Rouge that he really left his mark. He made wonderful friends inside and outside the realm of the theatre and was enjoying life to its fullest. He was active in the Baton Rouge theatre during this time.
After retirement, he made annual trips to Europe which lasted a month or more.
Tarril was into physical fitness. He started working out in his twenties and it became a way of life for him, as he rarely missed a workout, even while on vacation. Staying fit was extremely important to him.
He was loved by so many people. A friend of his said that when they met, he thought of Tarril as a “unique” person. That was true. Tarril will be missed by more people than he could have imagined.
Tarril is survived by his brother, Robert “Bob” Fontenot and his wife Susan and his sister, Sonjie McIver and her husband Danny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald and Mildred Gaspard Fontenot; two brothers, Maril Fontenot and Jerry Fontenot.
