Mary Agnes Berken Harrington's Obituary
Mary Agnes Berken Harrington passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the age of 85.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at St. Anthony
Catholic Church at 1:30 PM. Fr. Tom Voorhies will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Leo
Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of sixty-two years, Jesse Harrington of Eunice; four
daughters, Annette Harrington of Eunice, Anne Harrington of Eunice, Aileen Prevost and
husband Jim of Rayne, and Andrea Hunt of Opelousas; three sisters, Christina Hornsby of
Roberts Cove, Josephine Thevis of Roberts Cove, and Rita Hoffpauir of Lake Charles;
and three grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Casper Berken and Thecla Thevis Berken; three
sisters, Elizabeth Klein, Angela Leger, and Anne Louise Berken; four brothers, Al, Herman,
Vincent, and Rheinie Berken; and one grandson, Stephen Prevost.
Mary enjoyed reading, tending to her flowers, and handwork, especially hand crafting Christmas
ornaments for friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the Choir at St. Anthony of Padua
Catholic Church since 1957, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Mary also dedicated
her time to the Ladies Altar Society at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Robert's Cove and the American
Legion Women's Auxiliary Organization.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Edmund's Catholic School in Eunice,
Rayne Catholic Elementary in Rayne, and St. Ignatius School in Grand Coteau.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at St.
Anthony Catholic Church from 11 AM until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm.
