Laura "Tibi" Thibodeaux Davis' Obituary
Laura Marie Thibodeaux Quinealty Kern Davis (nickname "Tibi")
Born 1/4/1914, Tibi celebrated her 100th birthday in January. She always told everyone, as long as 60 years ago, that she would live to be 100 years old. And she was right!
Tibi was born in Branch, Louisiana to Maurice and Lovenia Cormier Thibodeaux. She is survived by her children Robert Quinealty (wife Loretta), Marlene Kern Hollier (Frank), and Leo Kern (wife Linda). She had 8 grandchildren: Janet Quinealty Tyler, John Robert Quinealty (deceased), Michael Quinealty, Carolyn Quinealty Davies, Lisa Quinealty Voclain, Robert Glenn Quinealty,Jr., Adrienne Kern Locascio, and Kevin Kern. Tibi is also survived by 20 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.
Tibi was a long time educator in St. Landry Parish schools including teaching positions at LSU-E. "Miss Kern" was a well-known and well-loved teacher to many, many Eunice students. Her career as an educator did not end until Tibi was in her eighties. She also directed the first Head Start programs in St. Landry Parish and was a highly successful Real Estate Broker in Eunice. And, she was an accomplished pianist and author.
Tibi grew up in a time that was not open to women exceeding in professional careers. Not one to heed to the pressures of the times, Tibi went on to earn Bachelors and Master's degrees in education. She was her own person and marched to her own drums, sometimes to the surprise of her family.
Services for Tibi will be held at Quirk and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1. Visitation will start at 8am followed by a celebration at 1pm and internment immediately afterward at Mt Calvary Cemetery.
