Dr. James "Jim" Moore, Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. James Linwood Moore, Jr. age 77, of Eunice, LA, died Friday, September 2, 2011, at St. Francis North Hospital in Monroe, LA.
James was a veteran of the United States Army. After serving his country he went on to have a long 30 year career as an educator. He was Coach Jim Moore to the students at Linwood Jr. High and Ridgewood Jr. High in Shreveport, Louisiana. After teaching in Shreveport for 9 years . He earned his master's and doctorate degrees from LSU in Baton Rouge. In 1971, he accepted a position in the liberal arts department at LSU-Eunice as a professor. He was then known as Dr. Moore for 20 years serving as a full professor, Head of the Liberal Arts department and ultimately Head of Continuing Education at LSU-E. James was known to his many friends in Eunice as "Jim." He and his wife Joan have been active members of First United Methodist Church in Eunice for more than 40 years and love their church family. Jim taught Sunday school there for many years and sang in the choir. His friends would say that Jim was a joy to be around because he was a positive person. He loved to laugh and you couldn't spend five minutes talking to him without hearing him laugh out loud at a funny story or anecdote. He was a die-hard LSU Tiger, a life-long St. Louis Cardinal's fan, an avid fisherman, golfer and hunter. After retiring in 1994, he and his wife of 56 years, Joan Lowery Moore, spent every minute together. Joan says that when they went out together, every day, usually for breakfast, they would say, "We are on vacation, let's enjoy ourselves." And they did. He loved his daughters dearly and they knew it. There wasn't ever a time they couldn't go to Daddy with their heartaches, problems, joys and sorrows. He was always there, always encouraging. Prior to his death, Jim served on the Civil Service Board in Eunice.
