Irby Joseph Olivier's Obituary
Irby Joseph Olivier passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the age of 86. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home of Eunice with Pastor Chris Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford Cemetery in Basile.
At the request of family, visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 and resume at 8:00 AM on Thursday until time of Services. The VFW will honor Irby at a 5:00 PM ceremony Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Irby was a beloved brother, husband, father and local businessman who loved the Lord and his family with all of his heart. He was quick to forgive, slow to anger and loved sharing his life’s experiences with everyone in a fun and jovial way. He was an active member of the church and loved spending time with his family and friends hunting, fishing and cooking at the camp.
Irby was born into a large Cajun family of eleven siblings in a time where it was important to help the family on the farm. After coming back home from serving in the United States Army stationed in Germany, he was employed by an appliance repair company for many years. This career choice earned Irby the trust and respect from members of the local community that he would serve for many years to come. After his appliance repair career came to an end, he decided to establish Olivier’s Pawn Shop in Eunice, Louisiana in 1981, and he remained open until his retirement on 2001.
Irby is survived by his wife, Mary Elaine Ashford Olivier; one son, Aaron Olivier and wife Shannon; two daughters, Becky Biessenberger, Elaine Denise Bernard and husband Victor; three brothers, Roy Olivier, Morris Olivier, Viel Olivier; three sisters, Bernita Briscoe, Lee Etta Bogard, Isabelle Cormier; eight grandchildren, Brandon Biessenberger, Courtney Biessenberger, Drake Biessenberger, Kristina McManus Graybill, Victor Scott Bernard, II, Caitlyn Estes, Regina Ortego, Christopher Hebert, II; eight great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Tenzli, Jonathan, Everly, Elliotte, Olive, Harper, Tatum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Labbie Olivier; two brothers, Eurdley Olivier, Terry Olivier; two sisters, Mary Anna Olivier, Elvie Olivier.
Singers for the service will be Cory Olivier and Weston Weaver.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Biessenberger, Drake Biessenberger, Victor Bernard, Scott Bernard, Faron Olivier and Chad Briscoe.
