"Mae-Mae" was a strong, kind, lady who loved her family with all her heart. She was a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of many years, James Bill “J.B.” Bourgeois and angel baby, Joseph. Together, she and James pioneered a successful funeral supply business, which is now a third-generation company. Helen was also a wonderful Cajun cook and grew most of the vegetables she enjoyed as a child growing up on a farm in Cecilia, LA. She had many fond memories of her childhood with her parents Ernest and Leota and four siblings John, Wilamina, Howard and Ray.
She is survived by her three daughters Helena Ann Bourgeois of Lawtell, Mary Brenda Bourgeois Boudreaux and husband Carroll of Lawtell and Angela Bourgeois O’Rourke of Opelousas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Louie Guy Champagne III, Kobe James Champagne, Connor Lee O’Rourke, Grayson John Bourgeois, Marion Rose Champagne and Teagan Grace Champagne. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Albert and Melvin as well as sisters-in-law, Ruby, Pat and Kim and many loving nieces and nephews.
We, the family, would like to thank the cardiac unit nursing staff and doctors at Opelousas General Hospital and Prompt Succor nursing staff for their outstanding care they provided our mother in her final days.
