George Joseph Derbes III's Obituary
A memorial service for George J. Derbes, III, age 70 will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin Saturday morning at 11 AM until service time.
George passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010.
George lived life to the fullest and had many close, dedicated friends. He graduated from Eunice High School in 1960, spent a year in Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, before enlisting in the United States Air Force. From 1962 to 1966 he served his country with duties in Viet Nam and the Philippines.
When you were George's friend, " you were his friend for life", said many of his close friends and there was nothing he wouldn't do for you. Because of these warm personal traits and a good work ethic, he had a very successful career as a mud engineer for over 40 years having started his apprentice work with Halliburton and Alpine Mud Service. Later, he joined Delta Chromolley and soon became president of Delta Mud Service.
Throughout his career, George was President/CEO of Clark Sherwood, VP/Head of Sales for Oilfield Construction Service and President of Southland Drilling Fluids throughout the late 70's and 80's in Louisiana and Texas. In the industry, George was known for his sales and marketing skills and strategies, which attracted and satisfied repeat clients throughout the south. George was an active member of A.P.I, S.P.E. and A.A.D.E organizations. Over George's career he worked with and for key industry leaders: Cecil Rogers, President of Alpine Mud Service, "Shorty" Rozas, President of Oilfield Construction Services, Lacy Hamilton, President of Hamilton Services, Wayne Harding, President of Harding Enterprise, Louis Talbert, Delta Chromolley and Paul Toce, President and Chairman of Toce Oil.
He is survived by , Michelle Derbes Stang, daughter of George and Wanda Derbes of Lewisville, TX; a sister, Margaret D. Jackson of Dallas, TX; his wife Jamice Johnson of Basile, LA; three grandchildren, Brandon, Stephanie & Michael Stang all of Lewisville, TX
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdie and Margaret "Bettee" Rosenburg Derbes
A reception at Ruby's Banquet Hall on 2nd Street will be held immediately following the service until 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
