Donald Ray Dischler, Sr.'s Obituary
Donald Ray Dischler, Sr.
BORN: March 7, 1929
DIED: April 20, 2014
LOCATION: Eunice, Louisiana
It is with great sadness, yet grateful hearts that the family wishes to announce the passing of Donald Ray Dischler, Sr. on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the age of 85 while residing at Eunice Manor. A graveside service was held on Monday April 21, 2014 at St. Louis Cemetery at 11 a.m. An informal flag folding ceremony was conducted by C.J. (Jay) Martello, II (National Guard, like his grandfather) and Jacob Moon (USMC) in honor of their grandfather and his service to our country. Pastor Dennis Gotreaux of Freedom Baptist Church in Eunice, officiated.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Eunice and graduate of Eunice High School in 1946, then served our country in the LA. National Guard from 1946-1952. He chose a vocation working in sheet metal for 55 years, eventually becoming owner of Dischler Sheet Metal where he became a master craftsman designer working with sheet metal and copper. He could look at something and know what needed to be done, draw a design and then do it. In his last years he also designed, created and sold Cajun Washboards for local Cajun musicians. All who knew him knew he could build or fix anything if he had a hammer, a screwdriver, and a roll of duct tape! He also enjoyed riding and breaking horses and raising Catahoula dogs. His greatest joy was loving the Lord while being an honest, hardworking man who devoted his life to the care and support of his wife and 7 children, then passing along his wisdom and knowledge to his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anne Hundley Dischler of Eunice, LA; three daughters, Sylvia Dischler Martello Stanford (Button) & husband Julien of Crowley, LA, Sharon Dischler Sullivan & husband Gary of Norwood, LA, and Janice (Jan) Dischler Moon of Eunice; four sons, Donald, Jr. & wife Lynette of Houston, TX, Mark & wife Vanessa of Eunice, LA, Karl & wife Jeanne of Eunice, LA, and Bruce & wife Wendy of Eunice, LA; one brother, Richard Dischler of Lafayette, LA; one sister, Emma Lou Dischler of Eunice, LA; 28 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
