Darrell "The Watermelon Man" James Smith, Sr. passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016,
at the age of 61.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral
Home in Eunice. Deacon David Guillory will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Vickie Miles of Eunice; one son, Darrell J. Smith, Jr. and wife
Samantha of Eunice; one daughter, Stephanie Smith and husband Brandon Vidrine of Eunice;
one sister Joyce Charlie of Eunice; one brother, Terlin Smith and wife Lajauna of Carencro;
twelve grandchildren, Miranda Vidrine, Brodie Istre, Bracque Herpin, Tatelin Miller, Matthew Myers,
Tallor Miller, Raylee Jo Smith, Jackson Vidrine, Amber Bertrand, Sophie Smith; Manny Velasquez,
and Eva Velasquez; two great-grandchildren, Chloe E. Aguillard and Robert Doucet; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, John Smith and Bertha Benoit Smith; one sister, Shirley
Jagneaux; and two brothers, John Smith and Mervin Smith.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Quirk & Son Funeral Home
in Eunice from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon David Guillory.
The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday for visitation until the time of service.
