Eunice native and resident of St. Amant, La, Blair is survived by his three daughters, Kelli Manuel Taquino and her husband, Kyle; Jessica Manuel Manchester and her husband Justin; Ashley Jo Manuel, all of Lafayette, La; his beloved fiancé , Melinda Becnel, of St. Amant, La; his parents, Mr. L.D. and Geneva Manuel of Eunice, La; his sister, Pam Manuel Fontenot and her husband, Rocky of Lake Charles, La; two brothers, Kris Manuel and his wife, Christina of Foley, Al and Jamie Manuel and his wife, Vickie of Katy, Tx. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Doxie and Levianne Manuel and his maternal grandparents, Adaus and Ernestine Bergeron.
Blair grew up in Eunice, attended St. Edmund’s Elementary School and moved on to Eunice High School. He was the President of the Future Farmers’ of America and won the FFA Award upon graduation. He played for the Eunice High Bobcats, as offensive guard and defensive tackle from 1970-1972. He was very active in the Eunice community, served as a member of St. Anthony’s Parish Council and was President of the Eunice Jaycees. He retired from farming and went to work for Osca Oil Company in Lafayette, La and later for the MI-SWACO, A Division of Smith International, Inc., Houston, TX.
Blair loved spending time with his family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, to include hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers, holding season tickets to Tiger Stadium and Alex Box Stadium. He and Melinda enjoyed white water rafting, traveling, gardening and of course, LSU Football and Baseball. We will always remember Blair’s winning smile, compassionate heart, and celebrative spirit.
Visitation will be held at Quirk and Son Funeral Home beginning at 11:30 am – 2:00 pm on Friday, May 7th with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Eunice, La, with Fr. Tom Voorhies as the main celebrant, followed with internment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to Quirk and Son Funeral Home, 121 South 6th Street. Further donations may be sent in Blair’s name to his favorite charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
