Barbara Ann Fontenot's Obituary
Barbara Ann Smith Fontenot, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born on January 26, 1951, in Swords, La, to the late Neston Smith and Anna Mae Babineaux.
Barbara was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord. As a homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. She had a heart that welcomed everyone she met, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her five sons, Scotty Bailey; Bryan Fontenot and wife Danielle, Havun Fontenot and wife Tara, Kaylum Fontenot and wife Stephanie, and Ashton Fontenot and wife Destiny; three daughters, Shelly Fontenot; Tatum Fruge and husband Jeff, and Lensey Fontenot; one brother, Donald Smith and wife Clara; twenty-seven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aliday Fontenot, Jr.; one son, Stein Fontenot; her parents; two brothers, Ned Smith and John Ray Smith; one sister, Clara Smith Pennartz.
Barbara's children extend a special thank you to their mother for always showing them the way — Jesus. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue through the generations she leaves behind.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Chataignier with Brother Rickey Boone officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will follow in Chataignier Baptist Cemetery.
