Wilfred "Woody" James Tupper

With heavy yet grateful hearts, we remember and celebrate the life of Wilfred "Woody" James Tupper, who departed this world on July 20, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on June 7, 1951, Woody journeyed through his years with curiosity, courage, and boundless love for his family and the skies above.

Woody flew crop duster planes for more than 40 years, after which he was a helicopter pilot. Woody’s life was one defined by exploration—of the world, of its possibilities, and of the depths of his own compassion. A consummate pilot, Woody traveled the world, his passion for flight matched only by his wonder at the earth unfolding beneath his wings. His stories of distant places and high-altitude adventures imbued those around him with a sense of possibility, a reminder that horizons exist to be crossed. He was not merely someone who traveled the world; he invited those he loved to look beyond, to embrace the journey, and to find joy in discovery.

Though the clouds were his second home, it was among his family that Woody found his greatest sense of purpose and fulfillment. Cherishing every moment together, Woody built a legacy of deep connection—a tapestry of memories that will continue to warm the hearts of his beloved relatives. His treasured wife, Connie Fontenot Tupper, shared a life rich in laughter, unwavering support, and adventurous partnership. Their bond was one marked by steadfastness and affection.

Woody's pride in his children was evident to all who knew him. He is survived by his son, Chad Tupper, and Chad’s spouse, Kelly; by his daughters, Adrienne Schultz and Katy Young, along with their spouses, Pat and Jason. Their lives, and the lives they have built together, serve as powerful reflections of Woody's nurturing spirit and persistent encouragement.

Woody’s influence ripples through the lives of his twenty grandchildren who all called him "Captain": Drake, Luke (Ellie), Wesen, Patrick, Colt, Anne Marie, Mary Beth, Hank, and Blaise Schultz; Catherine, Theresa, Clare, Alena, Monica, and Matthew Tupper; Christian, Owen, Bailey, Monty, and Abbigale Young. Each grandchild carries forward stories and values Woody imparted—his humor, his curiosity, and his gentle strength. His great-grandchildren, Jacque and John Woody Schultz, continue the story he began, living embodiments of the family roots that stretch deep and strong.

Woody was also a devoted brother to Warren Tupper, Jr. and Dale Tupper, and their shared memories and unbreakable loyalty are a testament to the bonds of family. He carried in his heart the memory of those who went before him: his parents, Warren Tupper, Sr. andr Peggy Robinson Tupper; and his beloved sisters Dana Bebee and Vicki Anders. Their legacies were nourished in him, and through him passed onward to the next generation.

Woody’s days were animated by friendships formed in hangars and hometown cafes, in airports or on quiet walks. Whether sharing a pilot’s tale or lending an attentive ear, his kindness lingered long after partings. He understood the beauty of connection—the simple currency of a smile, the weight of a listening ear, the life-affirming power of presence.

Woody’s family, friends, and all who adored him find comfort in gathering to honor and celebrate his extraordinary journey. Visitation will be held at Quirk & Son Funeral Home, 121 S 6th St, Eunice, LA 70535, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday, July 23, from 8:00 am, at the same location until 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Nick Ware Celebrant. He will be laid to rest at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 29031 Crowley Eunice Highway, Eunice, LA 70535.

As we look skyward, tracing the arc of a distant plane or the sunlight painted across the horizon, we honor Wilfred "Woody" James Tupper—an adventurer, a storyteller, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who shared his life’s journey with all those fortunate enough to walk a part of the way with him. He leaves behind a world far richer for his presence—one in which the sky will always seem a little friendlier and the road ahead a little more inviting, for having known the man called Woody.
