Versie Myrtle Clark Deshotel, 108, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at her home in Eunice, Louisiana. She was born on April 21, 1918, in Oakdale, Louisiana.

A remarkable woman who was blessed with 108 years of life, Versie was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Throughout her long and beautiful life, she witnessed generations of her family grow and carried with her a lifetime of memories, love, and wisdom. To her family, she was affectionately known as “MamMaw,” a name that will forever be associated with her warmth, love, and devotion to those she held dear.

Versie was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Eunice. She found great joy in working in her yard and took pride in caring for her home. She especially loved cooking for her family and bringing everyone together around her table. She also enjoyed watching wrestling and treasured the companionship of her beloved cat, “Smoky.”

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Fontenot; her brother, Clayton Clark; her sisters, Ernestine Satcher and Yona Lilly; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Her 108 years were not simply measured in time, but in the countless lives she touched, the meals she prepared, the stories she shared, the memories she created, and the love she gave to her family.

Versie was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Edgar Paul Launey; her second husband, Rhiney Deshotel; her parents, George and Molly Johnson Clark; her son, Michael Launey; her daughters, Elvie Bumgardner and Amanda Bertrand; and twenty brothers and sisters.

At 108 years old, Versie was blessed with a life that spanned more than a century—a remarkable journey that allowed her to witness an extraordinary amount of change in the world while remaining a constant and loving presence in the lives of her family. Born in 1918, she lived through generations of history and watched her family grow. She was blessed to see four generations of her family carry on the love, traditions, and values she held dear. Her 108 years were not simply measured in time, but in the countless lives she touched, the meals she prepared, the stories she shared, the memories she created, and the love she gave to her family.
