Susan Marie Frey Landreneau, born on June 10, 1955, in Eunice, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Her departure marks the end of an era defined by determination, love, and an indelible spirit woven deeply into the rich soil of Landreneau Farms.
Susan was no ordinary farmer. She pioneered the crawfish business at the family farm, an enterprise that grew under her watchful eye and relentless dedication. During cutting season, she was utterly absorbed in running the rice driers, her passion for agriculture extending beyond mere work into a cherished way of life. Her affinity for the land was also expressed in simpler pleasures; she reveled in the rhythmic hum of her John Deere lawnmowers, cutting five to six acres of grass in just a few hours, a testament to both her vigor and devotion.
To those who knew her, Susan was the embodiment of strength and leadership—her husband affectionately recalls that she was "the boss," a woman who guided with quiet authority and unwavering resolve. For 53 years, she and David Landreneau shared a partnership filled with shared dreams and joys, including their mutual love of deer hunting, a passion they pursued side by side with reverence for nature’s cycle.
Beyond the fields and forests, Susan brought sweetness into the lives of others in the most literal sense. She took immense pleasure in baking cakes for her workers, a gesture that spoke volumes about her generosity and care—nurturing her community as lovingly as she tended the crops.
Her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her husband, David Landreneau; her son, Chad Landreneau; her daughter, Celeste Klumpp and her husband Chris; her brother, Darrel “O” Frey; and her beloved grandson, Scotty Klumpp. Their lives are etched with the memory of her warmth, strength, and the enduring imprint of her love.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Frey and Anna Doise Frey; her brother, Doug Frey; and her grandchild, John Wilson Klumpp. Their memory rests alongside hers in the hearts of those who hold dear the legacy she leaves behind.
A visitation to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home. At 1:00 PM, Fr. Blaine Clement will lead the rosary, followed by the service immediately thereafter. Susan’s final resting place will be at Rougeau Cemetery in Duralde, where family, friends, and all whose lives she touched can find a place to reflect on a life so fully lived.
In every breath of wind in the fields she loved, in every tidy row of crops and freshly mowed acre, Susan Marie Frey Landreneau’s spirit endures—steadfast, nurturing, and deeply beloved.
