As a young married man, Sam began working in the construction business and continued to do so until he eventually became the General manager for Roy Young Contractors. He then decided to quit the construction business to become a grocery store owner. During his twenty years in the grocery business, Sam owned College Road Grocery, Eunice Food Mart, Sam’s Super Check, and Sam’s Grocery .He also managed Super Sam’s. The doctors informed the family that Sam would need a quadruple bypass surgery. Shortly after the completion of the surgery, Sam had a major stroke which left him with limited speech and without the ability to read or write. In the beginning, he was able to care for himself with some supervision. Over the last few years, his health began to deteriorate.
Sam loved to watch football on tv , horseracing and most of all - baseball. Over the years, Sam coached his sons, his grandchildren, and even other kids as his children got older.
