Obituary

A funeral services for Mildred Aileen Darby, of Eunice, will be at Quirk and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Turner officiating. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday January 8th from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the service on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice. Born December 18, 1922, at Coats, Kansas, she passed away on Saturday January 5th at age 90.

Aileen was a homemaker and excellent cook, who, as a young woman during World War II, served as a teletypist in the War Department (today's Department of Defense) at the Pentagon, in Washington, D.C. In later years, she was an avid artist, working in several media, winning awards over the years in shows throughout Acadiana. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Aileen was devoted to her local First United Methodist Church, serving nearly six decades in virtually every lay capacity.

She is survived by son James B. (Ben) Darby III and daughter Darla Kay and Darla's husband Duane Baker, all of Eunice; five grandchildren, Ryan and wife Mary Miller Fuselier, Clay Fuselier, Justin and wife Tessie Hicks Fuselier, of Eunice, Jameson and wife Heather Black Darby, of Falls Church, Virginia, and Amanda Darby, of Baton Rouge; and eight great-grandchildren, Catherine, Olivia and Miller Grace Fuselier; Devin and Brad Fuselier, and Brie, Dace and Haze Fuselier, all of Eunice, and two sisters, Inez Gulley of Oklahoma City, and Doris Culp, of Tulare, California, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Aileen was predeceased by her beloved husband James B. (Jim) Darby Jr., of Eunice, her parents Frances and Nora Smith, sister Lea Temple and brother Herbert Smith, all of Nowata, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are urged to give in Aileen's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Eunice or to their place of worship.
