Melvin Joseph Sonnier, Sr. passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the age of 65. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St Augustine Catholic Church in Basile with Father Keenon Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. At the request of family, visitation will be held at Quirk and Son Funeral Home of Basile on Tuesday, August 11 from 8:00 am until time of Services. Melvin is survived by his mother, Olia Fontenot Sonnier; one son, Marvin Sonnier and wife Angela; two daughters, Melissa Belton and husband Julius, Stephanie Sonnier; four sisters, Geraldine Mouton, Lieche Derousselle, Catherine Sonnier, Tracy Richardson; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Moreau Sonnier; his father, Douglas Sonnier; one son, Melvin Sonnier, Jr.; one brother, Mervin Sonnier; one sister, Florence Guillory. As per the Governor's mandate, masks and social distancing are required due to Covid-19 as well as a 50 person limit.
