July 7, 1937 – June 25, 2025
Melvin Curtis Bellow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the age of 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Sam Fontana Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Thomas More Cemetery.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited by Father Sam Fontana at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM on Friday until time of departure for services.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Gayle Manuel Bellow; two sons, Michael Bellow and wife Joy, Danny Bellow and wife Cheri; one daughter, Katie Carroll and husband Jonathan; two brothers, Eston Bellow, Lawrence Bellow, Jr. and wife Linda; eleven grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Noah, Caleb, Collin, Bailey, Caylin, Madison, Brianna, Taylor and William; six great-grandchildren, Haisley, Adalyn, Winnie, Millie, Lincoln and Cullen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Bellow, Sr. and Lena Brown Bellow; one sister, Helen Miller and her husband Tanzy; brothers, Norris Bellow and Flo and Jim Bellow and Janette.
Melvin proudly served the Eunice community as an educator for 30 years, inspiring generations of students with his love of teaching and dedication to their success. He held a master's degree in mathematics and was widely respected for his commitment to education. In addition to his career in education, Melvin served as a Eunice City Councilman for nine years, working tirelessly to improve the city he loved. He was deeply involved in civic life and played an active role in the growth of community programs and events that helped shape Eunice into the vibrant town it is today.
He was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a dedicated supporter of many local organizations, including the Eunice Men's Tennis League, The Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. Melvin was an avid sports fan who proudly supported Eunice high School and St. Edmund athletics, as well as LSU and the New Orleans Saints. Whether watching a Friday night game or a Saturday night in Death Valley, He loved cheering on his teams with family by his side.
Above all, he loved his family deeply. He poured his heart into raising his children and took immense pride in their lives. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy – each one held a special place in his heart. He celebrated their milestones, supported their dreams and filled their lives with laughter, wisdom and unconditional love.
Melvin will be remembered for his strength, humility, faith, sense of humor and the remarkable legacy of love, service and devotion he leaves behind.
