Matthew Johnson, Sr. age 74, of Eunice, LA, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, LA.

Matt was co-owner of one of Eunice's landmarks, Johnson's Grocery Store. The store was opened in 1937, the year Matt was born. He began his work there as a boy until it's closing in 2005.

He is survived by his wife; Lorita LeJeune Johnson, Eunice, LA.

Three Daughters: Kelly J. Harrison & Dr. Scott , Jackson, MS. Shanon J. Hazlip & Brian, Baton Rouge, LA. Susan J. Menou & Dennis, Lafayette, LA.

Two Sons: Matthew Johnson, Jr. & Jan, Lafayette, LA. Russell "Rusty" Johnson & Niki, Denham Springs, LA.

One Brother: Wallace Johnson, Eunice, LA.

He is preceded in death by his: Parents: Arnestor & Doris Gaspard Johnson. Sister: Marie J. Fruge. Brothers: Joe, Steven, & Harison Johnson.

The family will receive friends at Quirk & Son, Eunice, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2011. A rosary will be prayed by Fr. Nathan Comeaux @ 6:00 PM. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 AM on Friday for a visitation until the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Eunice at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 30, 2011. Fr. Nathan Comeaux will officiate. Entombment to follow at St. Paul Mausoleum, Eunice, LA. Quirk & Son Funeral Home, 121 S. 6th. Street of Eunice is in charge of arrangements.
