IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lou Ella
Reed Fontenot
October 8, 1929 – April 2, 2023
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Lou Ella Reed Fontenot, 93, of Mamou, Louisiana, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023. Burial followed in Reed's Cemetery. Mrs. Fontenot passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2023 at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Crowley, Louisiana, the city where she married her husband Maxime Fontenot in a ceremony presided over by Judge Edmund Reggie. Lou Ella Reed was born in L'anse Meg, Louisiana on October 8, 1929 to Kenneth "Caney" Reed and Thea Fontenot Reed. Lou loved and raised anything that could grow – whether they be cats, dogs, birds (chickens, pigeons, doves, guineas, ducks, geese, peacocks), flowers, or children. She was a wonderful homemaker who expressed her love by always knowing the weather local to her loved ones and making sure they had eaten. She loved cooking for her family. Her most delicious recipes included what she called "fish belly" (catfish baked in a thick tomato sauce) and chicken and sausage gumbo. She was one of the original "foodies." Lou was also a devoted adorer of the Most Blessed Sacrament at St. Ann's Church and kept her Holy Hour for many years. Lou Ella is survived by one son, Max Fontenot and wife Josie of Crowley; one daughter, Marie Fontenot of Mamou; nieces Sheila Reed Ardoin of Ville Platte and Sheryl Reed Richardson of Mamou; and six grandchildren, Jude Fontenot, Lauren Fontenot, Ryan Fontenot, Grace Fontenot, Matthew Fontenot, and John Paul Fontenot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxime Fontenot; parents Kenneth E. and Thea Fontenot Reed; her beloved grandmother, Marie Avenautine Soileau Fontenot; one brother, Burkeman Reed and his children Catherine Reed Richard, Jerelyn Reed Maricle, Angela Reed Mynarzy, Phillip Wayne Reed, and Richard Reed, all of whom she loved as her own. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and "Tetaunte" who will be missed by all who knew her. Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice was in charge of the arrangements. Flowers were provided by great niece, April Sharp, of April's Place in Pine Prairie.
