Amy “Lonell” White, aged 84, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on October 16, 2024. Her love for her family and friends was boundless.
Lonell was the oldest of five sisters. Growing up, she loved to play tennis and swim at the Eunice Country Club. She graduated from Eunice High School in 1958. After high school, Lonell continued her education at Charity Hospital in New Orleans to become an X-ray technician. She worked for Dr. Frank Savoy and Dr. Rodney Landreneau. Additionally, Lonell worked for her father, Jess Burnett, in his oil field business.
In 1960, Lonell married Donald White. They had three children and were married for 34 years before Donald’s passing. Lonell and Donald enjoyed traveling throughout the western United States in their motorhome, often accompanied by their grandkids and showcasing their award-winning Persian cats. They loved to hunt and ran Mallard Lodge, where hunters from all over the United States came to hunt. They had a camp in Butte La Rose, where they loved hosting family gatherings and spending summers with their grandchildren, fishing and boating. Lonell enjoyed her morning coffee and a book on the swing, watching the birds.
When she discovered she had cancer 30 years ago, she told her oncologist, “Take care of my cancer; I’m going to live my life.” She maintained a great attitude about making every moment count and kept a smile on her face until the end.
Lonell was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, happiest when her family and grandchildren were around. She was always ready to play a game of Rummikub, showered her loved ones with affection, and was known as Memaw.
A friend to many, Lonell was a cherished member of the community in Eunice. She was part of the garden club, the Red Hat Ladies, and the Supper Club.
Lonell is survived by two sons, Donnie White, Billy White; one daughter, Shannon Walker; two sisters, Bobbie Sue Feucht, Jessica Boudreaux; five grandchildren, Aimie Fontenot (Ryan), Sarah Brousseau (Jacques), Jacquelyn Love (Mitchell), Christopher Walker, Alex White; eleven great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Blayton, John Ross, Micah, Christian, Levi, Myles, Max Mitchell, Rayne, Sway and Paisley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald White; her parents, Jess and Amy Latour Burnett; two sisters, Shelia Young and Kim Bergeron.
