IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lessie "Sonny"
Lee Fontenot Jr.
December 18, 1947 – July 5, 2024
Lessie Lee Fontenot, Jr., known affectionately as Sonny, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at his home surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 76. No Services will be held in accordance with Sonny's wishes. A Celebration of Life with loved ones will be planned at a later date. Sonny was born on December 18, 1947, to Lessie Lee Fontenot, Sr. and Betty Savant Fontenot in Eunice, Louisiana. He worked hard as a mechanic his entire life to provide for his family, beginning in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, then at Dresser Industries and, finally, finishing out his work career with retirement from National Oil Well. Sonny, or as some close to him referred to him, "Sonny Bunny", loved his family and friends immensely. He was an avid outdoorsman, cook, fisherman and loved dancing and spending time with his family and friends. There was nothing he enjoyed more than to be standing near a fire with a glass of Ancient Age in his hand, except maybe taking a Saturday night trip to the casino. He also looked forward to annual fishing trips with his "Toledo Bend Family", which was a tradition he kept alive with his family for three decades. Sonny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-five years, Sandra Martel Fontenot; her three children, Shelly Fontenot, Jarrod Fontenot (Tricia), and Justin Fontenot (Brittany); his mother Betty Savant Fontenot; his daughter, Lori Fontenot; his three siblings, Kerry Fontenot (Fran), Sussie Fontenot Rozas (Blaine), Linda Fontenot Wheeler; seven grandchildren, Tyler Trosclair (Morgan), Layni Trosclair Vizena (Jon-Erik), Lynzi Trosclair Gaspard (Christopher), Alex Trosclair (Madison), Kynsli Fontenot, Kaylee Fontenot, Madison Fontenot; two great-grandchildren, Eli Gaspard and Channing Vizena, as well as a host of friends who were not blood, but definitely family Sonny was preceded in death by his father, Lessie Fontenot, Sr.; his son, Blake Fontenot; his brother, Russell Glenn Fontenot, Sr. and his great-grandson, Callahan Vizena. His dance moves, infectious smile, sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
