Obituary

Joseph found great joy in fishing and spending time on the water.

With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph Kent Spell, Sr., who left us on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Acadian Medical Center. Born on December 4, 1962, in Lake Charles, Joseph’s life was a tapestry rich with moments of love, dedication, and resilience.

Joseph’s journey began in Lake Charles, where he was welcomed into the world and nurtured by a caring family. Throughout his years, Joseph was known for his unwavering kindness and the deep respect he offered to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Joseph found great joy in fishing and spending time on the water. He also enjoyed painting and tackling small projects, taking pride in keeping busy and lending his talents where they were needed. One project especially dear to him was repainting the St. Francis statue at St. Frances Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oberlin.

His family fondly recalls that Joseph loved to "be mean"—but only to those he truly liked and loved. His playful teasing was his way of showing affection, and those who knew him best understood that it came from a place of love. Beneath his tough exterior was a kind and generous heart. Whenever someone needed help, Joseph was always willing to lend a hand and could be counted on without hesitation.
