Obituary

Born on September 9, 1931 in Terre Haute, Indiana, John Carl Kackley loved his family, dear friends and humanity with an open and flexibile heart, satirical wit, and high expectations that demanded one rise to the occasion. He possessed an imperious manner that allowed him to utter the word "No" with authority and impunity. If he realized he came across as rude, he would make the addition of "No thank you". For forty years he was a psychologist for Pinellas County Schools in Clearwater, Florida. He was present during the desegregation of schools and went on to create PASS, Positive Alternatives to Student Suspension that was nationally acclaimed and improved the lives of students across the country. John was a veteran of the Coast Guard and very proud of his service. He completed both a baccalaureate and master's degree from Indiana State University in the early 60's. He had a special place in his heart for dogs and animals. At one time he had a tribe of over 10 "kitties" and one dog, Sheba his beloved Doberman. Sheba was followed by Shasta, another spoiled and loved "Dobie". He was the family historian and story teller, and was dearly loved by his family and friends. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Dwan and Dorothy Kackley, sister and confidant, Carolyn Kackley Sweeting. He is survived by his brother Richard and wife Jeri, brother-in-law Arthur Sweeting, nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends that are scattered across the country and the world. Locally he is survived by niece Nancee Sorenson and partner Warren Blikken. John was a mentor and inspiration to his niece and to her children Sarah Lile, in Tucson, Arizona and Eric Sorenson in Detroit, Michigan. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Clearwater Florida and Terre Haute, Indiana.
