Judge Isom Joseph "I.J." Guillory was born in Eunice, Louisiana, on January 31, 1918. Judge I.J. was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1934 at Eunice High School. From 1934 to 1940, Judge I.J. attended and graduated from Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelor of Law Degree. Judge I.J. began his law practice in Eunice in 1940. In 1941, I.J. was called into the Army. He held the rank of Captain, serving in the battles at North Solomons, Luzon, Papua, and Bouganville. Judge I.J. was decorated with the Bronze Star. Of the four and a half years he served, three and a half were in the South Pacific, with no break. After serving in the military, Judge I.J. resumed his law practices in Eunice. In 1972, he was elected State District Judge of the twenty-seventh Judicial Court where he remained until his retirement in 1992. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edmund's Foundation Fund, 230 North Third Street, Eunice, Louisiana, or charity of choice. Judge I.J. is survived by his caretaker Flo Bertrand; two sons Isom J. "Jay" Guillory of Houston, TX and Dr. Clint C. Guillory of Monroe, LA; one brother Robert K. Guillory of Lafayette, LA; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; caretakers Etta Manuel, Jeanette Cormier, and Anna Thibodeaux. Judge I.J. is preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years Annie Bell Cannon Guillory; parents Isom J. and Marie Picou Guillory Sr.; one daughter Jan Guillory Livermore; granddaughter Nikki Livermore; two sisters Eloise G. Dischler and Evelyn G. Broussard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Father Cedric Sonnier will be the main celebrant and Judge I.J.'s nephew Father Henry Broussard will con-celebrate. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM by Deacon David Guillory. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 22, 2012 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday from 8:00 AM until Service.
