Irving Francis Hopper passed away on September 20, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on July 14, 1941, to the late Irving Hopper and Ethel Mae Hopper.

Irving proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Yorktown. During his time at sea, he earned the distinction of becoming a Shellback, a time-honored naval tradition recognizing sailors who crossed the equator.

At the heart of Irving’s life was his beloved wife, Nancy Mann Hopper. Together, they shared nearly 63 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. On September 28, just eight days after his passing, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary—a beautiful testament to the many years of love and devotion they shared.

Irving was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed leather crafting and riding motorcycles, and he was also a professional magician, sharing his unique talent and love of entertainment with others.

Irving also had a special place in his heart for his animals. His faithful companions, Spot, his Rottweiler, and Snowball, his cat, were dearly loved and brought him much companionship and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving Hopper and Ethel Mae Hopper; his brother, Walter Smith, Sr.; and seven sisters.

Interment of ashes will be held at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings, La at a later date.

Irving will be remembered for a life filled with service, adventure, creativity, and above all, the love and devotion he shared with Nancy throughout nearly 63 years of marriage. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
