Ida Guillory Rider died at her home in Lake Charles Wednesday, December 4, 2013. She was born November 19, 1921, at Chataignier, LA, to Nelson Guillory and Elina LaFleur Guillory. Mrs. Rider worked at a grocery store clerk and housekeeper at Savoy Memorial Hospital, but her best-loved job was making a home for her husband, children, and grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Austin Rider; firstborn daughter, Diana Rider Granger; son-in-law, Charles Newman; and her sister, Cavel Duplechin. Survivors include her daughter, Jan Rider Newman; brother, Herbert Guillory and his wife Loretta; grandsons, Paul Andrew Newman and Mark Granger; granddaughters, Tina Fruge and Donna Benoit; son-in-law Gil Granger; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday December 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Father David Hebert will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery. At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Friday December 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral Home in Basile. A Rosary will be prayed by Father David Hebert at 6:00 p.m. that evening. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday for visitation until time of service. The family extends special thanks to Doris Bell, Heart of Hospice and Dr. Melissa Rasberry for the good care they took of Mrs. Rider, as well as Evangeline Home Health, who gave her home care for many years.
