Obituary

Harry Joseph Johnwell, Sr., a distinguished man whose life was a testament to dedication, love, and spirited passion, passed away on June 2, 2026 at age 81, leaving behind a legacy that resonates deeply with all who knew him. Born on November 22, 1944, Harry Joseph navigated through the years with a steadfast heart and an unwavering commitment to both family and community.

His professional life was marked by over 35 remarkable years at Ford Motor Company, where his diligence and loyalty were unparalleled. Throughout his tenure, he embodied the values of integrity and excellence, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Upon retirement, Harry Joseph embraced the opportunity to indulge in his cherished interests, becoming an ardent follower of sports—his allegiances proudly displayed in his unwavering support for the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and  USC.

Yet, beyond his career and hobbies, it was his devotion to his family that distinguished Harry Joseph above all. He was deeply loved by his late wife, Barbara Ceasar Johnwell, whose memory remained a cherished light in his life. His heart expanded with love for his two sons, Harry Joseph Johnwell, Jr. and Cornelius Johnwell, and his beloved daughter, Shaheeda Scott. The familial bond extended to his two brothers, Jerry Miller (Judy) and Lawrence Johnwell, as well as his four sisters, Linda Jones, Jeanella Ardoin, Patricia Davis, and Jenora Daigle. His role as a father and uncle grew ever more special with the presence of ten grandchildren—Corey, Courtney, Keivon, Mariah, Avant, Amaha, Cornelius, Armani, Anyiah, and Danielle—and the joy brought by three great-grandchildren, Ke'mor, Khariee, and A.J.

Harry Joseph’s journey was also marked by treasured memories of those who preceded him in passing: his beloved wife Barbara, his parents Hayward and Vinice Goodley Johnwell, and siblings Hayward Johnwell, Jr., Horace Johnwell, and Inky Johnwell. Their loving spirits remain forever intertwined with his.

The community will gather to honor Harry Joseph’s remarkable life and mourn his departure during scheduled services on June 16, 2026. A visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Bishop Ceasar Hall adjacent to St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, LA with a Rosary at 10:00AM. Father Hampton Davis will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mathilda Cemetery.
