Gus James Miller

Oct 22, 1948 — Sep 1, 2026

Eunice, LA

Gus James Miller, born October 22, 1948, passed away on September 1, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by devotion to his country, steady work, and deep love for his family.

Gus proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, he traveled to Japan, Taiwan, and Hawaii, experiences that became part of the broad and meaningful story of his life. After his service, he built a career as an architectural draftsman and also worked as a real estate agent and insurance agent. Through each chapter of his working life, he was known as a man who applied himself with purpose and care.

He greatly enjoyed time spent with family and country living, and those simple, lasting joys remained close to his heart. The life he built was one centered on home, on the people he loved, and on the quiet blessings found in being together.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Miller. He also leaves his son, John David Miller and his wife, Cindy; his daughter, Melissa Faye Courville and her husband, John; and his daughter, Michelle Marie Smith and her husband, BB. His family continued to grow through the generations, and he took great pride in them all: his grandchildren, Luke Miller and his wife Angie, Justin Miller, Elizabeth Courville Raiford and her husband Connor, Caleb Smith and his wife, Paisley, and John Michael Courville and his wife, Ali, and Robyn Smith Suire and her husband, Kenny.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Tate Courville, Olivia Raiford, Beau Courville, Graham Smith, Charli Smith, Cade Smith and his wife, Jasmine, Jayce Smith, Austyn Smith, and his great-great grandchild Everlynn Ann. Each of them was part of the continuing legacy of love and family that meant so much to him.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin James and Irene Fruge Miller; and his grandson, Dustin Smith.
