Eugenia "Ching" Veillon, 70, a lifelong Eunice resident, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at University Hospital at Birmingham, Alabama. Ching was a prominent figure in the Eunice community having served as an educator for 35 years. Ms. Veillon was an innovative, creative pioneer during her tenure at Glendale Elementary. Her many awards include National Distinguished Principal of the Year, 1994; recognition as Principal of one of the 55 best schools in America honored by Redbook Magazine; Outstanding Teacher of Year, 1973 (Eunice Jaycees); St. Landry Parish Principal of Year, 1992, 1994; and State Elementary Principal of Year, 1994. Ching was the St. Landry Parish Singles Tennis Champion in 1975 and KEUN Tournament Champion, 1976. She enjoyed Eunice League Tennis for most of her life. She fulfilled a lifelong dream as an author and captured her passion for Cajun people by publishing a book on the life of Bois Sec Ardoin. Ching also showed her passion for life by traveling the world with her many friends. She is preceded in death by her father Eugea Rougeau and her mother Lelia Savoy Rougeau and a grandchild Jacques. She is survived by her children Vince, Ann Vivian and husband Fernando, Dr. Bernard and wife Monique, her former husband Berk ; four grandchildren, Luke, Zach, Camille, Vaughan; one great-grandchild Draegan and her brother Dale Rougeau. Funeral services will be a 1:00 PM Sunday, August 10, 2008 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Eunice, La. Visitation is from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday, August 9, 2008 with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home. Reopen at 8:00 AM Sunday, August 10, 2008 until time of service.
