Elizabeth Viola Latiolais Martel passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018, at the age of 102. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Fr. Clinton Sensat will officiate. At the request of the family visitation will begin on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM until 10:00 PM at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice and will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 AM until time of services. A Divine Mercy Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 3:00 PM. The traditional rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 6:00PM. Deacon T.J. Richard will officiate. Viola is survived by her daughter; Sylvia Martel Boyer and husband, Irvin, two sons; Clarence Martel, Richard Martel and wife Ann, one sister, Lucy Boudreaux, ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and nineteen great -great grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Overne Latiolais and Ida Dupuis, her husband, Hubert Martel, three sisters; Irene Bernard, Bernice Dauterine, Birdee Latiolais, seven brothers; Allen Latiolais, Howard Latiolais, Clyde Latiolais, Chester Latiolais, Andrew Latiolais, Cliffton Latiolais, Herbert Latiolais, Viola enjoyed quilting throughout her 102 years. She made quilts that have traveled to Canada and France. Viola gifted her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with hand-made quilts. Viola enjoyed cooking and baking cookies. But she especially loved baking for her grandchildren, and she made sure to have something special for each one when they visited. She was also an avid gardener with a green thumb for vegetable growth. Along with all of the special talents, Viola read as often as she could.
