Elie Deculus passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 86. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou with Father Billy Massie Celebrant. Burial will follow in the new St. Ann Cemetery. At the request of family, visitation will be held from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Wednesday, at which time there will be a Rosary by Deacon Chuck Ortego, followed by dismissal to attend Services. Elie was born January 7, 1936, in Mamou, La to Ashton, Sr. and Esther Gradney Deculus. As a young man, Elie grew up breaking in horses and enjoyed being a bronco rider. In 1954, Elie married the love of his life, Anna Sonnier. They were married 68 glorious years and their union produced 5 wonderful children, Frankie Deculus and wife Cynthia, Darrell Deculus and wife Mary, Tony Deculus and wife Cherryl, Barbara LaChapelle and husband Mike and Patty Arabie. Elie spent many years as a farmer and as a foreman at a chemical plants, both in Baton Rouge and Lake Charles. He also spent many years working with Evangeline Parish Sheriff Department and Mamou Police Department. He was an avid hunter and loved to celebrate with family and friends. Eli will be remembered for his great conversations, his jokes and his love of politics, police work and family. "Uncle Wednesday" will be greatly missed by all who knew him and he will always be loved. In addition to his wife and children, Eli is survived by two brothers, Herman Deculus, Howard Deculus; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ashton Deculus, Jr., Horrace Deculus, Antonia "Boy" Deculus, LJ Deculus; three sisters, Marjis Allen, Edna LaChapelle, Hazel Espree; two great-grandchildren, Kyrah and Colton and son-in-law, Curtis Arabie.
