Dorothy Ann Russell Stagg, of Eunice, LA, died October 27, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile, LA., which will be officiated by The Very Reverend Thomas Voorhies. Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Samuel Jonas Stagg, Jr., M.D.; her daughters, Marie Leger, Lisa Leger Brown & husband Paul, and Elizabeth Leger Cuevas; her stepchildren, Jody Stagg & wife Julie, Susan Stagg Simon & husband Louis, Stephen Stagg & wife Gena, David Stagg & wife Mona, Nancy Stagg Fontenot & husband Paul; her sister Mary Russell O'Neill & husband Mark; and her 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren whom she loved and spoiled. She was preceded in death by her daughter Rochelle Leger; her granddaughter Frances Claire Brown; her parents Robert & Margaret Mullaney Russell; and her brothers Michael Russell & Patrick Russell. Dorothy was born on September 1, 1942, in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. She was a caring nurse who dedicated her life to serving others. She worked as an ICU nurse at Eunice Memorial Hospital until her retirement and was known by her colleagues and patients for her tireless energy and compassionate care. She loved traveling with her husband and family to New Orleans, Cancun, and any other beach where she could bask in the sun. She also enjoyed reading books, watching her story, and being Nana Claus at Christmas. She touched many lives with her generosity, kindness, and love of humanity. Many sincere thanks to friends and neighbors far and wide for their outpouring of sympathy, for their gifts of cards & food, and for their uplifting of prayers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana or St. Edmund's Catholic School.
