Obituary

Curzy "Pork Chop" Roy, age 79, of Ville Platte, La., died Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte, La. Curzy Roy was know in the local Cajun Music Community as "Pork Chop". He was a drummer most of his life for many cajun musicians starting with Harry Choates and performed on Harry's recording of "Jole Blon" in 1946. He played the drums for musicians such as Jimmy C. Newman, Hadley Castille, Ray Landry, and Donald Fontenot. He also played with old legends such as Nonc Allie Papa Kiroe, and Al Terry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cajun Music Hall of Fame, 250 S. CC Duson St., Eunice, La. 70535, Phone: (337-457-6534.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Albert & Lucy LeBouef Roy; Wife, Eldera Chapman Roy; Son, Shane Roy, Brothers, Albert, Jr., & Clenie Roy; Sisters, Bertha R. Francois, Berthile R. Leger, & Esther R. Fontenot; half sisters, Alberta Brown,& Jeanette Roosevelt; half brothers, KeWayne Roy & Harry "Nookie" Roy.

Visitation is from 8:00 AM to (service time) 1:30 PM at Quirk's Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice Wednesday, Feburary 4, 2009. Burial to follow in St. Louis Cemetery in Eunice, La. Quirk & Son Funeral Home, 121 S. 6th. Street of Eunice is in charge of arrangements.
