I knew him only in his old age, but I found him to be a delightful person even then. I feel honored to have known him, if only for a little while.
Mr. Chookie was such a sweet man. He was always there for his customers too, on Sundays or after hours. He knew the true meaning of "customer service"... and he remembered his customers! What a beautiful soul....R.I.P. Mr. Chookie...you will be missed😪
I and my children are saddened by Mr. Chookie's passing. He was certainly a man to have earned a place in heaven. We will remember his smile and politeness to us, and of course to the Eunice community. Our condolences to the Derbes family, and blessings with peace and understanding.
I remember Mr. Chookie from the time I was in early Elementary School. My Dad, Lee Fusilier worked at the Drug Store for a while as a Soda Jerk and I believe as a stock clerk, after he returned from WW II. Mr. Chookie always had a smiling face and a kind word.
Lisa, Charlie, Doug and Tommy Derbes condolences to you all and your family. He was such a great man and took care of so many of us and our children. No one will ever forget seeing him behind the pharmacy counter. To this day I can still see both Chookie and your grandfather’s smile. Such a sad loss for many. 🙏🏻
I am so sorry for the Loss of your Father, Lisa Derbes Lebouf. Prayers for you and your family. He was my mothers' pharmacist til she died in 2020 May he RIP

Dear Charlie….so sorry to read of Mr Chookie’s passing. He was such a kind sweet gentleman. I have many happy memories of him and the drug store. He allowed me to have my very first charge account there. I think I was only 16 at the time. It made me feel so grown up. Have seen him around town over the years, not recently tho, but always remembering me with a smile and a kind word. He will be missed by many. My memories of him are cherished. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
