Bernice Scallan Wiley

With deep respect and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Bernice Scallan Wiley, who left this world on July 24, 2026, at Opelousas General Hospital. Born on August 28, 1948, in Mansura, Louisiana, Bernice’s gentle spirit and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her.

Bernice lived her life with quiet grace, shaped by her strong family roots in Mansura. She was the cherished daughter of Sim Scallan and Sara Laborde Scallan, both of whom preceded her in death. Growing up in a large and loving family, Bernice shared treasured bonds with her brothers, Nolan, Milburn, and Stanley Scallan, and her sisters, Betty Lachney, Zenella Lachney, and Martha Morisako, all of whom passed before her. Each relationship held a special place in her heart and added to the richness of her journey through life.

Bernice was a devoted mother to her daughter, Marie Romero (Joseph), who carries on her legacy of love, strength, and kindness. Her devotion extended to her beloved granddaughter, Sara Anna Lucero, who was a source of joy and pride in her later years.
