Amanda was a devoted wife and mother that strived to maintain an active professional life as a teacher and counselor, while instilling a very strong faith in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

It is with great sadness that the family of Amanda Lee Rozas Lafleur announces her peaceful passing on August 6, 2026, the anniversary of her mother’s death in 1968. Born on January 31, 1940, in Eunice, LA, Amanda was the fourth child of Stewart and Florence Rozas. She earned her BS in Business Education degree from St. Mary’s Dominican College, her M.Ed. degree in Guidance Counseling in 1980 through LSUE and LSU Baton Rouge. Amanda served as an educator in high schools from New Orleans to Eunice from 1961 to 1989, including teaching typing, stenography, and religion to high school students as well as teaching catechism to parents at St. Anthony Catholic Church for many years, until her retirement from St. Edmund Catholic High School in 1989.

Amanda was a devoted wife and mother that strived to maintain an active professional life as a teacher and counselor, while instilling a very strong faith in the lives of her children and grandchildren. After moving back to Eunice in 1969, she and Gary made a new home out of the same house that she had grown up in, next to the Circle Tennis Courts, so that her children could walk to the houses of their grandparents Sherwin and Pearl Lafleur as well as Amanda’s aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Alton Fontenot. Amanda integrated her academic knowledge of the Catholic faith into the daily lives of her children. She credited this faith and the prayers of the community with sustaining her strength during corrective heart surgeries in Houston for her new born child Claire in 1971.

Amanda dedicated her professional life to the school from which she graduated, St. Edmund High School, where she worked as a teacher and eventually served as Guidance Counselor. She helped establish the Gold Card Program with the assistance of many local businesses as a reward for students earning top grades in the Eunice area. She was also honored to receive the Educator of the Year Award from the Diocese of Lafayette in 1989. Amanda was also very proud of her contributions to the Louisiana Right to Life organization. One of her most cherished accomplishments was the establishment of a prayer group that has strengthened the faith-lives of several local families over many decades.

Amanda carried on a Rozas family tradition of hosting marvelous gatherings. She and Gary threw many parties celebrating family marriages, tennis tournaments, homecoming parades, and weekend retreats sailing in small sailboats. She was willing to dance for the St. Edmund Booster Club Las Vegas Night as well as the Irving Awards Chorus Line to celebrate the Eunice Players’ Theatre. While living in Atlanta during the 1990s, they hosted many visitors from Eunice attending the 1996 Summer Olympics. Whether it was in Eunice, on Bayou Lacassine, in the French Quarter, or in Atlanta, the Lafleur household was often filled with music from the piano, the congo drum, tambourines, and laughter until the wee hours of the morning.

Amanda was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart Rozas and Florence Fontenot Rozas, along with her beloved siblings Rita Rozas Broussard and Stewart Paul Rozas II. She leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years Gary J. Lafleur, MD FACS, and her big sister, Ann Rozas Fruge, along with her four children: Gary LaFleur, Jr, PhD, Michelle Lafleur MacFadyen and husband JP, Holly Lafleur Soileau and husband Todd, Claire Lafleur Butler and husband Christopher, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Amanda’s family invites all to join them in celebrating her life. Visitation will be held at Quirk & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM by Deacon Gary Gaudin. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, Aug 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Fr. Tom Voorhies will officiate with Fr. John Dugas, Fr. William Schambough, and Deacon Tim Maragos concelebrating. Following the mass, a gathering will be held at Gabrielle’s, 235 W. Laurel Ave. in Eunice.
