March 27, 1936 - January 17, 2022
Glenna Jean Krehbiel Loewer of Mowata, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, at age 85. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2:00 PM, at Mowata Baptist Church Cemetery, 3406 Henry Bieber Road, Eunice. A time of fellowship and sharing will follow at the Mowata Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (one-half mile due east of the cemetery). Glenna will lovingly be remembered by her four children: Gregory Loewer (Janet), Robbin Phelps (Dennis), Debbie Caldwell (Jim), and Wesley Loewer (Jane), 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends. She is also survived by her remaining sister, Rosie Krehbiel Goering (Harry). She is predeceased by her husband, Harold Loewer; her parents, Herman and Hulda Goering Krehbiel; and her older sister, Veradine Krehbiel Graber. The second of three daughters, Glenna was born at her family home in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, being raised in the Mennonite General Conference tradition. It was during her senior year of high school that a cousin introduced her to the “farm boy from Louisiana,” his classmate at Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas. Glenna was smitten! After marriage in 1955, she joined Harold on the Loewer family farm in Mowata, and quickly assimilated into the family traditions and German heritage. The women of First Baptist Church of Eunice taught the young bride how to cook in the Cajun way. She later served their congregation as pianist, women’s mission leader, Bible study teacher, and greeter. Glenna will always be that sweet girl from Pretty Prairie, who moved far away, became a rice farmer's wife, raised a family, served in Christian ministry, traveled to so many places, touched countless lives, and impacted her world. Their ministry assignments after leaving the family farm included Greater Baton Rouge, California, Texas, and Belize (Central America). In retirement, Harold and Glenna moved back to Mowata, where they lived for 25 years, and participated in various Christian ministry organizations and endeavors. In 2018, Glenna and Harold moved to Rosewood Assisted Living in Lafayette, where she learned to live with Alzheimer’s disease and its impact upon her life. The family would like to especially thank the staff and care partners of Rosewood, Right at Home, and Hope Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to Acadia Baptist Center, 1202 Academy Road, Eunice, LA 70535, or First Baptist Church, 331 Park Avenue, Eunice, LA 70535.
