I wonder if Dorothy knew how impressive she was, what a role model she was for my sisters and me, and how much our mother loved her. She arrived in navy blue loafers, and tailored jumper, with an easy, familiar laugh, and a cigarette in hand. We each felt that we had always known her and she us. She had what all women want and all people need - a perfect balance of confidence and humility, of authority and gentleness, of devotion to God and a devil-may-care attitude. An entertainer and gatherer, she made all feel welcome and paid attention to the small details that leave lasting impressions. I will always be grateful to Dorothy and Parraine for visiting our mother when she was sick. That was medicine for the whole Nixon Family. Love, Emily
